Team Damian Meets Spiderman
Spiderman Cosplayer Arsenio Garcia visited The Ronald McDonald House in NYC to greet Damian Creed. Spiderman is Damian's favorite superhero. Damian is a 4 year old boy who was diagnosed with advanced retinoblastoma on May 25, 2014 and metastatic retinoblastoma on September 8, 2015.
Damian has retinoblastoma, a rare form of pediatric eye cancer affecting about 200 children annually in the US. He was diagnosed on May 25, 2014 and receives treatment at Nicklaus Children's Hospital, formerly Miami Children's, and Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. Retinoblastoma is very treatable when diagnosed and treated properly. Unfortunately, on September 8, 2015, Damian was diagnosed with metastatic retinoblastoma. This is extremely rare and far less treatable. There are currently only a couple of cases in the US. We are not giving up and trying everything to save our sweet boy.
Damian has been through 30 proton radiation treatments at UF Proton Institute in Jacksonville, countless eye exams under anesthesia, laser treatments, 7 rounds of intra arterial chemo (IAC), hospital admissions, MRI's, bone marrow aspiration, lumbar puncture, countless lab draws and now he is undergoing systemic chemo. On July 2, 2015, his left eye was enucleated (removed) due to tumor progression. He received his prosthetic eye in September.
Damian is a typical 4 year old little boy, fighting an awful battle. He loves to play, loves to learn, read books, count everything, sing songs, and be happy. He is truly a superhero and we could not be more proud of him. He's truly a superhero.
